Mrs. Ford - Grade 1
Welcome to first grade!
Welcome to the fabulous world of first grade! My name is Mrs.Ford and I will be your child’s teacher. I am new to John Trumbull Primary School but not to teaching. I have taught first grade in Waterbury for the past twelve years. I bring with me years of experience and a genuine love of teaching. I am very excited about the upcoming year and the new challenges and experiences that are ahead. Now you know a little about me. I hope to answer many of your questions on this web page.
Folders
The children have been given a John Trumbull school folder. This folder will be used to transport notices and homework to and from school every single day. This should be emptied of papers each night and returned to school each day. As part of our morning routine, the children are instructed to remove any notices and homework from their folders and hand them in. During the day the children will put homework assignments and notices into the folders so that they will get home. Please check the folders daily. Send any notes or returning notices back to me in them. This folder provides daily practice in building the skill of responsibility.
Specials
Monday ART
Tuesday COMPUTERS
Wednesday MUSIC
Thursday LIBRARY (Please return your child’s library book so they will be allowed to take out a new book.)
Friday PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Your child will need to wear sneakers to school.)
Lunch and Snacks The price of lunch is $2.75 per day. A menu will be sent home each month so that you will know the choices. Tickets for the week (or more) can also be purchased on the first day of the week. If purchased with a check it should be made payable to the Watertown Hot Lunch Program. If your child is absent or chooses not to buy on a certain day, the lunch ticket will just continue to be used until the allotted days are completed. Milk may be purchased for $.50. Please send money in an envelope or ziplock bag and label with your child’s name and mine.
Money
When sending in money (book orders, field trips, etc.) please send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s first and last name, the purpose for the money, and “Mrs. Ford”.
Absences/Tardiness
Parents need to send a note when their child has been absent. Please make every attempt to get your child to school on time. Coming to class after school has begun can be very stressful for a child when it occurs on a regular basis.
Birthdays Children are welcome to bring in a birthday treat for the class on his or her birthday. Please send in a note a day or two in advance so I can plan accordingly. All food has to be checked by the school nurse before it can be brought to the classroom.
Homework
Homework will be given every night except on Friday. A spelling list will be sent home on Monday so you can practice the words at home. There will be a spelling test each Friday. Please sign your child’s work before it is returned to school. In the case of absence your child’s work will be sent home upon the child’s return to be completed in a timely fashion.
Transportation
I must have a note from a parent if there is a change in scheduled transportation. (i.e. going home with someone else or being picked up at school.) Please do not contact me for transportation changes via e-mail.
Please don’t hesitate to write me a note or call me @ 945-2776 and I will get back to you promptly. We are partners in the education of your children. I am enjoying getting to know your children and you. We want this to be a wonderful and happy year for all!
