WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
Spelling Words- Lesson 1
CHALLENGE WORDS:
Reading and Language Arts: Students have been busy working on our new Storytwon book. We have been exploring many different pieces of writing and determing if they are fiction or non-fiction. We are working on identifying the plot of each story we read- characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end. Of course, we are still working on writing complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation. What's cool is that we have been learning about adjectives! This will help us in our own writing! Our new reading program brings together reading, language, and spelling, which is great- Everything is connected and makes it great for us to learn!
Math: Students are working on mental math with adding and subtracting in this chapter. We will learn how to use models for tens and ones, mental math, and estimation to add and subtract two-digit numbers. We will learn how to add on to a number to make the nearest ten and even 100! Mental math is a strategy that will simply help your child better understand how to add and subtract in their head.
Science: Soil is our next unit of study. We will be taking our field trip to Barnes Nature Center to learn more about soil. We look forward to doing lots of hands-on activities to explore dirt!
Social Studies: We will be working on our study of maps and globes in this unit. We will be looking at maps carefully to identify the compass rose for directions and looking at map keys for symbols.
